Kippy's clients say:

I was impressed by the dedication and attentiveness of the leader.

The only time I have seen a face as consistently focused, calm, and, encouraging as Kippy’s is when I watched a mid-wife’s face during the delivery of my sister’s child. I always felt Kippy was really paying attention to each person on many levels. She also has a wonderfully light sense of humor and contagious enthusiasm.

Professional training

Kippy earned a Masters in Expressive Therapies from Lesley College (’91).

She obtained a Bachelor’s degree from Hampshire College (’89) in writing, women's studies, and education.

Kippy has completed extensive training in psychodrama and sound healing. Although she has had formal education, she considers the bulk of her clinical wisdom to have come from learning about people while teaching and working in other cultures.

About Kippy Phelps

Kippy is an expressive arts therapist and educator. She has been directing drama for personal, societal, and environmental change for 32 years. She loves drama therapy and psychodrama because they make deep healing phenomenally fun.

Kippy works with individuals (children to elderly), couples, families, and organizations. She leads groups for couples, abused children and teenagers. She has worked in community mental health agencies, hospitals and women’s centers. She supports people in dealing with such issues such as trauma, addiction, mental illness, disabilities, and learning challenges. One of her specialities is working with families who have a family member with a disability.

Kippy has taught in diverse cultures around the world. She taught at an orphanage in Colombia, taught health in a refugee camp in Nepal, worked with women’s centers in Calcutta, and ran educational programs in Aleutian (Native Alaskan) villages. Kippy has a background in teaching environmental and peace education through intertwining the arts and anthropology. She created experiential arts-based education by looking at how cultures relate to the earth and solve conflict.

In addition to college teaching, Kippy presents at professional conferences, and served on the board of the Expressive Therapists of New England. Her goal is to spread expressive arts therapy as far and wide as possible because she so passionately believes in its transformative power.
