Kippy's clients say:

Doing the psychodrama and expressive arts modalities has allowed me to go much further into many of my personal issues than I have previously been able to do through “traditional” talk therapy.

Using the whole body and more senses, more spontaneity, more introspection and creative power, brings out a truer sense of what is going on and what could be amended.

Expressive Arts Therapies Modalities

A "modality" is a form that creative expression takes. We usually think of the modalities as "the arts":

- Drama and enactment

- Music and sound

- Art

- Dance and movement

- Intermodal (any or all, at different times)

What is Expressive (Arts) Therapy?

Expressive Arts Therapy (ET) intertwines the creative arts modalities (art, dance/movement, music/sound, drama/play, and poetry/prose) with verbal psychotherapeutic techniques. Accessing deep aspects of the psyche through image, sound, movement, metaphor, and story, ET offers new possibilities for emotional healing. ET is particularly helpful in resolving body-related issues such as those stemming from abuse and trauma.

As a healing catalyst, Kippy listens with all six senses, facilitating the use of the expressive form most suited to the moment. Together, she and her clients co-create experiences that help them discover new ways to move through life-limiting obstacles.

Expressive arts therapy facilitates group members becoming comfortable with each other and sharing their experiences and concerns in a context that is non-threatening and fun. Workshop participants report that using a combination of movement, theatre “games” and discussions make it easier to talk about “intense” topics”.
